Chryseia Douro 2020 is a polished, terroir-driven red from José Maria da Fonseca’s flagship Douro project, blending Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz into a wine that balances power and finesse. The 2020 vintage shows ripe black cherry, bitter cocoa and crushed slate on the nose, followed by concentrated dark-fruit flavors, a thread of balsamic herb and spice, and fine-grained tannins that give structure without overwhelming the wine’s freshness. Medium-plus body and bright acidity make it approachable now with short-term decanting but also very ageworthy, promising additional complexity with 8–12 years of cellaring. It’s an excellent match for roasted lamb, mushroom ragù or mature cheeses and a standout example of contemporary Douro winemaking that marries fruit intensity with mineral precision.
