The Chocolate Block is a cult wine from venerable South African producer Boekenhoutskloof. Big, bold & powerful, this is a rich, smooth & complex red that lives up to its name. Full-bodied & rich; smooth, silky mouthfeel with flavours of blackberry, leather, spice & – yes – chocolate. The make-up of this wine is tweaked from vintage to vintage to best reflect the season and the ancient vines of great character that are an integral part of the wine’s charm & personality.

Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776 & is now run by legendary South African winemaker Mark Kent. The brilliance of its wines has never been in doubt. A winemaker whose ethos is rooted in French non-interventionist thinking, natural yeasts, minimal racking & impeccable vineyard work, Mark’s meaty, complex Syrah is perhaps his most famous wine, but his other wines are equally remarkable like the powerful Cabernet, the sensational Chocolate Block & the excellent value The Wolftrap Red & White. These wines can be hard to find & quantities of the top wines are tiny.
