Vinified in the same manner as Ripasso, this blend of Valpolicella grapes has a great complexity and balance. This SCAIA’s “super Venetian” wine. It’s a concentrated wine, made with grapes from Valpolicella and 20% of Cabernet Sauvignon to provide density and opulence, but with a fruity and rounded finish. Ruby red in colour with purple reflections. Aromas include morello cherry, small woodland berries, candied red fruits with spicy notes of black pepper, liquorice, cocoa and tobacco. The palate is soft and warm, with a distinct velvety feeling that envelops the whole mouth.
SCAIA is one of the brands of pioneers Valpolicella Tenuta Sant’Antonio winery. Based north-east of Verona, their vineyards are on a ridge of hills, close to the Alps. In Veneto dialect, the word “scaia” means a chip of stone, chalk, limestone: it is a tribute to our soil, where a line of unique young wines is produced. Their focus is on enhancing the primary characteristics of the grapes via stainless steel fermentation and ageing, to produce consistently fresh wines with aromatic complexity.
