Since its inaugural vintage in 1987, The Menzies, named after Sir Robert Menzies, politician and red wine enthusiast, has continued to grow in stature and quality. Cabernet Sauvignon grapes used for The Menzies are estate grown at Yalumba’s Coonawarra vineyard, an exceptional site in the heart of Coonawarra’s legendary terra rossa strip. Today, this premium Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon represents elegance of structure, finesse and longevity.
Dark cherry red with a crimson hue. The bouquet of the Menzies is elegant and inviting, notes of cedar and liquorice combine beautifully with rich ripe cassis, violets and the quintessential Coonawarra “sea spray” note. The palate opens with a burst of cassis and mocha. It is a structural yet generous wine, dark and brooding with restraint and promise of the enjoyment for years to come. The fruit flavours are integrated and there is freshness and vitality.
Founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, Yalumba is Australia’s oldest family owned winery. Today, the winery is owned by fifth generation descendants, Robert & Sam Hill Smith and their families.
